Monumenta: Metamorphosis explores monumentality as an emotional and inherited experience rather than a fixed architectural form. Developed as a conceptual event identity and invitation system, the project imagines a ceremonial gathering within a Mediterranean seaside grotto—an ancient threshold between nature and civilization, myth and memory.
Drawing from Greek mythology, classical architecture, personal lineage, and cultural history, the project reinterprets monumentality through transformation rather than permanence. Laurel motifs reference both ancient symbols of honor and the myth of Dafne, whose metamorphosis into a laurel tree serves as a metaphor for resilience, self-preservation, and becoming. Inspired by hand-embroidered textiles created by the artist's grandmother, classical ornament is translated into contemporary graphic language, connecting ancestral memory with design practice.
The identity system extends across invitations, RSVP materials, menus, and environmental applications, integrating architectural references, symbolic imagery, and custom typographic compositions. Influenced by Alejo Carpentier's concept of lo real maravilloso (the marvelous real), Monumenta collapses the boundaries between myth and lived experience, positioning design as a ritual act through which identity, memory, and cultural inheritance are continually reshaped.
